Project : Help partner NGOs register on donation platforms

Background :

Youth for Seva works with partner NGOs – whom it connects to volunteers who give their time.

As a principle, YFS volunteers do not raise money for partner NGOs – though they help with other aspects of fund raising – like designing brochures, websites, email newsletters etc. of the partner NGOs.

A useful  tool for raising funds is registering on donation platforms like Give India, Letz Change, Just Giving etc. This helps provide our partner NGOs with publicity for their work, and raise money.

 

Goal :

• Make a list of donation platforms that are relevant to Indian NGOs.  This is not a small list, there are the known platforms and there are other platforms like CII that are not conventional donation platforms – but getting registered with them helps the partner NGOs.
• Help partner NGOs register with a pre-screened list of online donation platforms.

Expectations from Interns :

• Unlike many other internship options listed on this site – which need daily travel to the seva centers, a significant part of the work in this internship is something that can be done from home.Off course a certain number of meetings with partner NGOs shall be required.
• Since the work requires getting the documentation of the partner NGOs in the format required by donation platforms – it is very well suited to students of commerce or those pursuing professional programs like CA, CS, CWA etc. though all are welcome.

Project : Library Establishment

Background :

We, at YFS, have got a good collection of books received from our collection drives and partner NGOs.

Goal : 

The ultimate goal is to have a library setup at each of our teaching Kendra

Ideal Team of Interns :

• 2-3 volunteers will be involved in collecting books currently present at our various locations and tagging each of them (as per our set format)
• 2-3 volunteers will be involved in visiting various kendras and establishing libraries there
• 2-3 volunteers (with basic knowledge of website development) will be involved in developing website for this complete YFS library project
• 3-4 volunteers can be involved for locating and organizing more collection drives, as per requirement

Project : Record videos of Seva work done in partner NGOs

Background :

Youth for Seva (YFS) works with a number of partner NGOs, who work on ground. The role of YFS is to connect volunteers with partner NGOs. For a good match between partner NGOs and volunteers, it is useful to have documentation of the Seva work done by the partner NGOs.

Goal :

• Visit partner NGOs.
• Understand their work and philosophy.
• Look at existing collaterals
• Document the work and create collaterals
  • Shoot videos of volunteers, beneficiaries and the work
  • Take photographs of the work
  • Write stories of change

.
Expectation from Interns :

• Work in teams of 2 – 3 people
• Bring your own cameras / stands etc.
• Some part of editing will be required. It will be helpful if interns can do some editing or learn during this period.

Project : Work with children of seva kendra (slum) to prepare group song सेवा है यज्ञकुन्ड समिधा सम हम जलें

Background :

Songs in general, and group songs in particular, engage  children in ways and communicate the message of the song in ways few other activities do.Long after children are grown up, the song will reside in the recess of the mind. And give the message..

Goal :

Coach and help children of seva kendra (slum), prepare the group song. The desired outcomes are :

• Children remember the song  in toto – its words and its tune and the message
• They understand the message of Seva

Meaning:

As fortunate, holy & good it is for wooden stick (samidha) to go in the holy fire of yagnya, same way it is for us to enter in to service work. Stick does not remain the same as it was, but burns itself to serve for the purpose.
As river flows & merges in to ocean, let us go & merge in to this ocean like huge work of service (seva).
Being a good to people & every person being living a well contended life is song we boldly chant.
Every person filled with Service oriented mind, is essence or core of our work ||S||

Forgetting about is superior & inferior, we should stand united,
Let feeling of brotherhood come naturally. Hatred & bitterness has no space within us,

Project : Evaluating production units present at Bottom of Pyramid in Delhi, and opportunities for them in current market scenario

Project Description:

Interns will :

• Study and do research on various NGOs and Self Help Groups producing goods – the quality along with pricing of those goods, and their present customers/consumers.
• List down and do a study for parallel products existing and selling in the market.
• Perform a research on pricing, supply demand and quality of goods expected.
• Identify the prospects for selling the goods produced at this Bottom of Pyramid in the current market scenario.
• Also, prepare proposals/presentations focusing on how these goods can make it to corporate through Seva Fair, or any other medium.

Project : Financial Inclusion

Background :

Going by basic definition of Financial inclusion, it is delivery of Financial Services at an affordable cost to vast section of disadvantaged and low income groups

Goal :

• A research work on various available Pension Plans, Medical policies/insurance, Life insurance policies, Micro Finance – that fall under the umbrella of Financial Inclusion.
• Study various benefits present under each scheme.
• Document/Presentation highlighting step-wise procedure to avail each of the schemes.
• Ground study of various NGOs (like Sanchayan Society) working in this direction of Financial Inclusion.

Ideal Team of Interns :

• Team of 2-3 interns with Finance background who could study and prepare document/presentation on various aspects related to Financial Inclusion and schemes under it.
• Team of 2-3 interns doing on-ground study of NGOs, SHGs working in this direction

Project : Record Audio Books

Background :

There is a large population of visually challenged children in Bhaarat (India). Audio Books are very useful in helping them learn various subjects.

Youth for Seva – Delhi Chapter has been recording Audio Books since Sep 2012. Based on feedback from blind hostels and schools, our understanding of the work is as follows:

• CBSE syllabus, IGNOU syllabus and state boards (in that order) – all need to be recorded
• Recording books in English is simpler due to existence of TTS (Text-to-Speech) software. The shortage is biggest in audio books in Indic languages. Hindi, Telugu and Bangla are where the largest needs exist.
• Younger children also want to listen to stories
• Children want to listen to books like life stories of inspiring personalities.

 Goal :

• Set up a core team that takes consistent care of Audio Book Recording even after the summer vacations.
• Set up separate teams for
  • Content Creation (Recording Audio Books)
  • Content Tagging as per subject, language, class / Cleaning for noise / Changing formats to a standard
  • Distribution of content – by uploading files on internet (soundcloud, google drive etc.)
  • Partnerships / coordination – with other NGOs doing similar work, with blind schools etc.
• Record 100 audio books in Hindi during the next 60 days

Ideal Team of Interns :

• 2 – 3 project coordinators / co-coordinators for each section (Content creation / Tagging / Distribution / Partnerships)
• 2 – 3 people to take care of file uploading / website
• 50 – 100 interns / volunteers for recording audio books – can be very well done from home.

Project : Strengthening Computer Education in Slum centers

Project Description:

Interns will :

• Understand the present process and courses being taught by partner NGOs
• Identify new useful courses as per current trends – available via NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation)(http://nsdcindia.org/pdf/list-nsdc-centers-across-country.pdf)
• Make suggestions / help redesign course being taught at the partner NGOs using inputs available from Nasscom Foundation / computer centers run by other NGOs.
• Impart class room / practical training to future trainers
• Help prepare program and process documentation at various centers.

Project : Women, not Objects

Goal:
Create online and offline campaign against objectification of women.

Method:

• Document various cases of objectification of women in popular media.
• Understand current legislation and provisions under which this objectification can be opposed
• Study the success / failure of earlier attempts to protest / fight objectification of women in media / advertising / entertainment.
• Create petitions

Ideal Team of Interns:

• 2-3 teams each having 2 or 3 lawyers / law students for understanding earlier approaches in this regard – like petitions to ASCI (Advertising Standards Council of India).
• One / Two designers (poster design / campaign FB / site design)
• One / Two content creators
